We are now stocking a super strong Lay-Down Wardrobe Box. Also known in the moving industry as a ‘flat robe’ or lay flat box’ it is ideal for packing garments, linens, and decorations. This flat robe moving box is much easier to use and far less expensive than the portable hanging wardrobe box. This double walled box is also designed to fit under most beds, making it a compact storage solution.
The box is wide enough for most hangers so you can quickly transfer hanging clothes straight from your closet to the box. This box is also useful for packing curtains, drapes, linen and decorations. The lay down wardrobe boxes should be kept flat and upright when moving. Use this box for packing, storage, or shipping. For weights and dimensions please click additional information.
You can typically lay 15-20 garments flat within the lay-down wardrobe box. The trick is to lay the clothes one at a time to ensure they lay out flat and crease free. However, heavy coats and jackets will take up much more space within the box. You can lay garments directly in the box with the hangers or you can remove them, this allows more space but the hangers can anchor the clothes in position within the box.
Traditional portable hanging wardrobe box is a fantastic product. However, it has become very expensive in recent years with the huge increase in cardboard prices. A retail price of €15 -€20 for a single wardrobe box is simply not feasible when moving home. These boxes are half the cost and half the size which is a major bonus when shipping abroad or putting your goods into storage where space is a premium. Another major flaw is that customers tend to overload the hanging wardrobe box which results in the rail tearing through the cardboard and falling.
We currently have a great deal in our box bundle section on 5 or 10 lay-down wardrobe boxes.
Whether you are moving home, moving internationally or moving your goods into storage, the moving boxes you use matter… more than you think! Think about it. Your TV can often be the most expensive item in a house. Think about how it is packaged. The packaging leaves little to chance when it comes to being damaged. You have the outer cardboard box, the foam inserts inside, the plastic protection on the screen and more. Yet when some people move house they have already discarded the original packaging and don’t see an issue with putting the TV loosely in the back of a van and hoping for the best.
What about your sentimental items. Family heirlooms can lose their value in an instant once damaged. Packing them into a cheap box without any protection is asking for trouble. Then you have the added worry that the substandard delivery driver or mover on a tight schedule will not treat them with the necessary care and attention. Despite all the “fragile’ or “please handle with care” stickers on your boxes, we have all seen videos of awful packing and loading of a van or truck.
Second-Hand Moving Boxes
If you are on a tight budget there are many moving and packaging companies that will sell second-hand boxes. At Moving Supplies, we actually stock a huge range of “once used” super strong moving boxes. We use only the highest quality materials ourselves as a professional moving company so our stock is always full. It is important to keep in mind, that our moving boxes will often last the test of time and can be used over and over again. If the boxes are kept in good condition they can be reused for 3-4 moves. You will find that the less durable, less expensive boxes will often deteriorate after just one move. An old saying springs to mind “buy cheap, buy twice”.
Different sized boxes for different sized items
Our boxes have been designed specifically for moving domestically and Internationally. They are purpose made for storage and even for office relocations. Moving Supplies stock all sizes of boxes from small book/file boxes to extra large linen boxes. Each sized box is printed with a suggestion of items we recommend that pack into each box. For instance, you DO NOT want to fill our extra-large linen boxes with books and paperwork! Not unless you can deadlift 3 times your own bodyweight.
For the past 43 years, we have been moving goods in tea chests, black bags, file crates and even banana boxes. In modern times we are seeing less and less of those materials and people are realising that they simply do not offer the same protection. The major problem now is poor quality boxes. You can search online now and buy boxes from large corporations for less than half the price than that of a professional moving company. But you have to ask the question, what do they know about moving? They may sell furniture or offer self-storage, but are they out there every day moving houses and offices?
With our 43 years of experience in the Moving and Storage industry, we feel as though we are best qualified to suggest how many boxes, tape, bubble wrap and packing paper you will need for your move. We have put a great deal of time into our tailored moving kits and price points. The quality of our materials reflects this. We stock moving kits to suit someone moving from student accommodation to a large family with a 5 bedroom house. If you require something extra, you can simply click and place it in your cart for checkout. We are also always willing to take calls or emails to offer any free advice for your upcoming move.
